What do you do when you feel like you’ve been lied to

By Pen and Planet

I feel deeply disillusioned with the society I’ve been raised in.

It started 8 years ago, but I kept assuming the grown-ups would fix the problem without my action. In my defense, I was only 13 at the time and had no platform to make my voice heard outside of my community of friends and family.

We’ve all lived through tons of “once in a lifetime” events, few of which being positive. Nearly everyone in this country is raised to believe in the American dream but I’ve been waking up from that dream for quite some time.

I want to see change and growth for a better future, not some dystopian society that strives to control its citizens as a means to grow the wealth of the few. There is so much information out there and it is so hard to go through every detail in order to truly be prepared for the next attack on human rights from our government.

Our country is building concentration camps, undoing decades of civil rights efforts and hiding it with their control over the media. There is rampant censorship, and every action points towards our “leaders” having fascist views.

I know it when I see it.

It is fascism.

I know that’s the case but I still don’t know what to do about it. How can change come about when those that are rich and powerful hold the cards?

I know I can no longer hold off on resistance, but I am nervous of the consequences. To resist our government poses a risk, but the more immediate risk is that of our government getting what it wants.

If you feel the same way, let’s talk and figure this out.
